Gunmen in a green minivan open fire on a group of teenagers waiting at a bus stop close to a Detroit school today, hurtful at least seven

Two were taken to hospital in a serious condition

At most five of the teens, including the two in serious condition, had just gotten out of summer classes at Cody Ninth Grade Academy when they were shot at the nearby bus stop, said Detroit Public Schools Police Chief Roderick Grimes.

Train blast toll down to 13

The death toll from the explosion of two gas-filled rail tankers in Italy was revised down to 13 today.

The regional health agency in the northwestern resort of Viareggio had earlier reported 16 deaths from the blast, which engulf homes in fire.

Eleven bodies were at the morgue in Viareggio while two people died from their injuries at hospital in two nearby towns, ANSA news agency said.

Car blast kills 27

A CAR bombing in the northern Iraqi oil hub of Kirkuk killed 27 people, including women and children, overnight as US troops pulled off city streets, the city's health director said.

Another 80 people were wounded in the bombing in a market area of the city which has long been riven by ethnic tensions.

"The morgue received 27 bodies," said Dr Sabah Mohammed al-Dawoudi.

Yemeni plane with 153 crashes off Comoros Islands

Moroni, Comoros -- A Yemeni jetliner carrying 153 peoples crashed into the Indian Ocean as it came in for a landing during howling winds on the island nation of Comoros. There were conflicting reports about whether a child survived.

The crash came two years after aviation officials report fault with the plane, an Airbus 310 flying the last leg of a journey from Paris and Marseille to Comoros, with a stop in Yemen to change planes. Most of the passengers came from Comoros, a former French colony. 66 on board were French nationals.

Police have released a CCTV image of an criminal who robbed a bank in the Manawatu town of Feilding the past, claiming he have a gun.

Police said the man told to a cashier at the Kiwibank branch on Goodbehere St he wanted to extract a large sum of cash and would return later to give them time to arrange it.
